10 Year Celebration
North Village Church is a family, which means we are radically committed to having deep, healthy, vibrant relationships with one another.
In addition, we are ridiculously committed to Jesus being at the center of our lives, which means we are submitting the whole of our lives to Jesus and His Word.
And, then our belief is that when we are living in deep relationships with one another and deep relationship Jesus, we will have an ravenous compassion for every many, woman and child in greater Austin to experience the life transforming power of Jesus.
Every three years we focus on one of these three areas, and the last 12 months we have been pressing in on our “chasing the community” and we called it, “making the most of the opportunity.”
Making the most of the opportunity
Colossians 4:5-6, “5 Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. 6 Let your speech always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person.
Shepherding the Home: We launched our first published devotional for North Village Church, because we knew if we were going to make the most of the opportunity, then we had to be in God’s Word every day.
Serving the Community: Second, we wanted to demonstrate the name of Jesus with our lives, and double down on Pillow Elementary Education Connection, Spring Fling, and Aquapalooza.
Sharing our Story: Third, we wanted to declare the name of Jesus with our lips, and last spring we challenged 12 adults in our church family to go through training by going out two-by-two, knocking on doors, asking people if we could pray for them, and looking for opportunities to proclaim the name of Jesus.
John 1:43-45, “43 The next day He purposed to go into Galilee, and He found Philip. And Jesus said to him, “Follow Me.” 44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip found Nathanael andsaid to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”
When we know Jesus we make movement toward others. We initiate. We learn one another’s stories, we look for those who are alone, we set aside our comforts, and we become genuinely curious about one another.
This fall we are going to train 12 men and women, and me and Keith are going to pour our lives into these 12 men and women, and get to know their story, and take them through training to initiate with others.
Then, this winter we are going to have those 12 men and women find 2 people each, and those 12 are going to pour their lives into 24 men and women, so that by God’s grace this time next year we will have 36+ men and women that are like Green Beret’s that we can drop into any place in the world with some boots, a Clif Bar, and a Bible, and they can INITIATE with someone off the street, (That they might not have anything in common) and help them grow in Jesus. Doesn’t that sound awesome?
Will you pray about being apart of this training in October, or one of those 24 to go through this training in January?
Will you pray about submitting your fears, doubts, and calendar to Jesus and asking Jesus, “How can I create more space to initiate growing deep relationships with the people of North Village Church?”
